More Information for New and "Experienced" Retirees

VACATION AND FINAL PAY CHECK

Retirement is effective the first of the month. The fifteenth day of the first month after you retire the company will mail you a check for your last week worked, the vacation hours on your check and the vacation hours you have earned since your last eligibility date.

YOUR FIRST  PENSION CHECK

It will be mailed the fifteenth day of the second month after you retire. Your first check will be for two months. After that, checks will arrive between the first and fifth of each month. If you have questions about your check call Comerica Bank at 1-800-647-3674.

USING DIRECT DEPOSIT

Your retirement paperwork includes a form to have your check directly deposited in the Automotive Federal Credit Union or a bank of your choice. If you use direct deposit, your money is in your account by 8:00 a.m. on the first business day of each month. You don’t have to worry about lost checks or being out of town when the money comes in. You can feel comfortable writing checks, going to the bank or using your ATM card anywhere in the country.

WITHHOLDING TAXES

You will want to have enough taxes withheld from your pension check, but not too much. Your income tax person can use his/her computer to figure how much you need to have withheld. You tell him/her how much your pension will be and the computer tells you how much to have withheld.

EARNINGS LIMITATIONS

There is no earnings limitation on UAW/Ford retirees. Social Security does have earnings limitations. That limitation also applies to anyone who is under the age of 65 and drawing Social Security. For information, call Social Security at 1-800-722-1213.

TESPHE

If you retire during or after the year you turn age 55, you can withdraw money from your TESPHE account without paying the 10% penalty required for withdrawing money before reaching age 59 ˝.

If you owe money on a TESPHE loan when you retire you can pay it off in a lump sum payment or you can have the payments deducted from your retirement check. You can also choose not to pay the money back at all. If you don’t pay it back you will have to pay taxes and penalties on it as part of this year's income.

You can leave your money in TESPHE until you turn 70 1/2. If you leave your money in TESPHE you can move your funds from one investment to another, but you can’t add any more to it. You can take regular payments annually, quarterly or monthly. For all TESPHE questions call 1-800-544-3333.

GOING BACK TO SCHOOL

Retirees get $1,500.00 per calendar year in tuition assistance. Classes must be at the plant or any UAW union hall.

Dependent children get $1,500.00 per year in tuition assistance.  No one gets more than $1,500.00, even if both parents are either active or retired UAW/Ford employees. Call the National Program Center 1-800-367-3829, if you have any questions.

THE WELLNESS CENTER

Retirees can use the wellness center during off peak hours.  They are required to follow all the same rules as active employees. For information, call 734-484-8246

  SOCIAL SECURITY

Most people will start to draw social security at age 62. However, if you should become unable to work for medical reasons you may become eligible for Disability Social Security. Disability Social Security pays 20% more than regular Social Security drawn from age 62. Questions? Call Disability Services Inc. at 1-248-344-4444.

You MUST inform the retirement board when you are approved for any type of social security. From that time on, you get only your life income benefit. However, the combination of your pension plus Social Security gives everyone who retires from Ford Motor Company an increase in their net pay.

MEDICARE

You get Medicare at age 65 or two years after you become eligible for Disability Social Security, whichever comes first. The Social Security Administration will mail you a Medicare card at the appropriate time. You must take both parts “A” and  “B”.

There will be a deduction from your Social Security check to pay for part “B”. A “Special Age 65 Benefit” will be added to your pension check each month to reimburse you for most of that deduction. You MUST call 1-800-333-7444 and listen for the Special Age 65 Option. Follow the process for “A” & “B” coverage in order to be eligible for this money. Call the Retiree Service Unit at 1-800-248-4444 for detailed information, if you have any questions.

Your spouse must also sign up for both parts “A” and “B” as soon as he or she becomes eligible. If you die first your Medicare eligible surviving spouse will not be covered under the company paid insurance unless he or she is signed up for Medicare part “B”. After your death your spouse will receive the “Special Age 65 Benefit” just as if he or she was a UAW-Ford retiree.

You continue to be covered under your UAW/Ford health care plan even after you have Medicare. The only thing that changes is that Medicare pays the first 80% of the bills and your health insurance will pay the remaining 20% of payable items.

CHANGING YOUR HEALTH CARE

You can change your health insurance at any time as long as you have had the same health insurance for at least one year. Changes take effect the first day of the second month following your call to 1-800-333-7444. You also use this same number to sign up for the Special 65 Benefit. Listen for the Special 65 Benefit in their menu. (To be reimbursed for Medicare)

You can also change your health and dental insurance if you move out of the coverage area. Changes are effective on the first day of the second month after you notify the Retiree Service Center of the change.

SIGN UP FOR THE MODIFIED

HEALTH CARE PLAN

You must sign up for the Modified Health Care Plan, (to avoid being defaulted to the Catastrophic Plan), by calling 1-800-524-1234 if you haven’t already followed this process.

OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE PLANS

Optional and Dependent Life Insurance can be continued until you reach age 70. To continue coverage, call Banker’s Life before the close of business on your last day of work 1-800-742-8215.
